Grew up raisin’ Christmas Trees
my dad, my brother and me.
In the end we’d cut ‘em all down,
And sell ‘em for a little fee

You think it’s so charmin’ Christmas Tree farmin’
It didn’t seem that way to me
I was a Sweatin’ & Bakin’ or Freezin’ & Shakin’
All I wanted was to cop some ‘Z’s.

White Pines, Red Pines, mainly Scotch Pines
Spruces: White, mainly Blue
& Firs: Douglas, Frasers, Balsams, Concolors
In rows so straight and true

In summer we’d swing our machetes
in the hot June and July sun
Hackin’ all the new growth back
A haircut for every one.

It ain’t all that charmin’ that Christmas Tree farmin’
At least It wern’t that way for me
I was Sweatin’ & Bakin’ or Freezin’ & Shakin’
I’d rather a boat on the sea

Come fall we’d walk amongst the trees
Take a look at every one.
The best got a stapled tag on his branch
that said he’d get cut down.

And then we ran that baler,
& wrapped em up real tight
And loaded ‘em up on big old trucks
Until we could call it a night

You might think it’s charmin’ to be Christmas Tree farmin’
Didn’t seem that way to me
I was Sweatin’ & Bakin’ or Freezin’ & Shakin’
All down to my nobby knees.

We’d follow our own semi,
haulin’ trees down south
four guys in a twenty foot trailer,
living hand to mouth

We’d sell those trees til Christmas Eve &
finally our work was done
Drive three hundred miles back north
on our Christmas midnight run.

But finally we got some sleep

The house shines bright with a glow in your eyes,
as the tree lights up so fine,
It's enough to make me forget my work,
